The Disk of the Milky Way

The disk is between 70,000 and 100,000 light-years in diameter. It does not have a sharp edge, and there are no stars beyond that. The number of stars drops slowly if you are not in the center. The number of stars drops much faster the farther away you are from the center.

Optical Astronomy

Galaxies are categorized according to their visual appearance. Many people think they have black holes at their centers. The central black hole in the Milky Way has a mass four million times greater than the Sun.

The oldest and most distant galaxy is GN-z11. It is seen as being 400 million years after the Big bang, and has a co moving distance of 32 billion light-years from Earth. The stars that form the galaxies are visible in the visible spectrum, so the observation of them has been a major component of optical astronomy.

It is a good place to look at the distribution of dusty arms and ionized H II regions. The dust is not visible to the eye. It is more transparent to the far-IR, which allows for a better view of the interior regions of giant clouds and the stars.

The Milky Way's Visible Region

The visible region of the Milky Way's plane is visible from Earth and has 30 constellations. The center of the universe is in the direction of Sagittarius. The hazy band of white light appears to pass around the anticenter in Auriga.

The Morphological Classification of the Universe

The system used by stronc to divide the universe into groups is called the galaxy morphological classification. Many schemes are used in which the galaxies are classified according to their morphologies. The Hubble sequence was created by Hubble and later expanded by Vaucouleurs and Sandage.

The elliptical galaxies have a spherical shape and no nucleus or bulge at the center. The center of the galaxy is still brighter than the outer edges, despite the fact that there is no nucleus. Their light is dominated by older stars.

They lack spiral arms. The stars, gases and other materials are spread throughout the elliptical galaxy. A cigar-shaped elliptical galaxies can be round or long.

The presence of a central black hole is thought to have a large part in the mass of an elliptical galaxy. There is not enough gasses and dust in elliptical galaxies to form new stars, which is why they have mostly old stars. Some elliptical and spiral galaxies were once spiral but have been warped by the external force.

Irregular galaxies may have a lot of gas and dust. Irregular galaxies are usually small, about one-tenth the mass of the Milky Way. As you read this, you will discover many other types of galaxies.

The Universe is Expanding

Everything in the universe is in a vast expanse of space. The universe contains all of the stars. The size of the universe is not known. The universe is expanding, according to scientists.

The Light from a Bright Star

It's like spotting a firefly next to a lighthouse. The light from the lighthouse is so bright that it's hard to see a firefly. All stars are bigger and brighter than the planets that surround them.

The Limits of Galaxy Cluster

As many clusters are still forming, the limits of the galaxy clusters are not clear. Even when they are much smaller than other clusters, they are still classified as galaxy clusters. Sometimes clusters are not real. Sometimes former clusters are the product of a chance line-of-sight superposition, thanks to the research of member positions, distances, peculiar velocities, and binding mass.

The Shape of the Milky Way

You can see thousands of stars at night at the dark places on Earth. There are many stars in the sky that are too faint for us to see. The shape of the Milky Way is similar to a fried egg.

It is a hundred times wider than it is thick and has a bulge in the middle. The bulge is the center of the galaxy and the disk is the rest. The stars in the Sagittarius arm are the thin band of light that you see.

You can't make out individual stars with your eyes because there are so many. You see a haze of light. There are very few stars above and below the disk.

The Southern Cross or the Crux is a famous constellation that can be seen even from big cities in South Africa. The pointers are two stars at the bottom left pointing towards the cross. Light years are used to measure the distances between stars and galaxies.

A light year is over 10 trillion kilometres. A light year is very far away. The solar system is large.

Dark Energy and the Universe

Dark energy and dark matter are the main components of the universe. There is strong evidence that it does exist, but what is it and what is it not known. 27% of the universe is believed to be composed of dark matter, which is more dense than visible matter.

The classification of spiral galaxies

A galaxy is a collection of stars, gas, and dust that are kept together by the force of gravity. There are planets, black holes, moons, comets, and dark matter in the universe. The most common type of galaxy in the universe is the spiral galaxies.

Of the known universe, over 75% are classified as spiral galaxies. The shape of the galaxy and the new stars that form in it are both the disk component's functions. The halo is located on the outer edge of the universe.

The halo is made up of clusters of old stars which are known as globular clusters. S or SA are the names of the regular or standard spiral galaxies. There is a more specific classification for both spiral and barred spiral galaxies after the initial classification.

S0 galaxies are a combination of a spiral and elliptical galaxy because of their bulge and disk, but they do not have a spiral-like structure. Large-scale disc galaxies that do not have spiral arms are called Lenticular. They have used up or lost their interstellar matter, so they have minimal ongoing star formation.

The Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy

The Canis Major DwarfGalaxy is only 25,000 light years from the Sun and 42,000 light years from the center. It was hidden by the dust in the plane of the Milky Way, which is why it was not discovered until recently.
